A Mini Pitch
Hi Ruben,
Thanks for you letters/blogs. I have landed a job on a tramp freight called the Johanna, so writing back has not been easy. (Surprisingly, WiFi in middle on the oceans is really spotty.) And there isn't really much entertainment on this rust bucket. (Trust me, it's a rust bucket. One sneeze and the Johanna would probably snap in half.)
To pass the time, I've been working on a mini pitch. Could you please put it up on your blog ? Oh, and why are Hollywood people so crossover phobic ?
I heard that RMB tried to pitch a UFO reboot and Mallozzi tried to pitch a Space: 1999 reboot. So I added one and one and created this.
From the oceans with love,
Alexia "Alex" Mackenzie
Hi Alex,
Sure, I'll put it up.
Ruben
2025: Humanity discovers that it is not alone in the universe. There are two alien races - The Psychons and the Dorcons. The Fermi Paradox is resolved ("If there are aliens, why haven't we met them ?") Imagine the Korean DMZ, but both sides are like North Korea. (Which each ruling about half the galaxy.) And Earth is essentially a tiny village on this strip of land between the two, surrounded by landmines, automatic turrets and all sorts of nasty tech.
Both sides have agents on Earth and are playing all sort of nasty games. They are found out when one side attempt to weaponize nuclear waste. Their plans are foiled by a USAF Colonel - Edward "Ed" Straker - and a US Navy Commander, John Koenig. Having learned the truth, the countries of the world get together and go "Forget this !" So, they come up with a Plan.
The Plan:
- SHADO/UFO - Straker is made Director and things kick off.
- Using Dorcon and Psychon technology captured by SHADO, Professor Victor Bergman oversees the creation of Moonbase Alpha. All of Earth's nuclear waste is moved there under major upgraded security. John Koenig is put in charge of the base.
It All Goes Pear-Shaped - 2029 comes around:
While Koenig and Bergman have been hammering together Alpha, SHADO has been kicking alien ass left and right. They have also discovered that the aliens can use nuclear waste as fuel for their ships. And after four seasons of losing, they are desperate. So, at the end of Season Four, they make a play for the waste at Alpha. Needless to say, it goes horribly wrong and the moon is blasted from orbit.
I could work out more details, but this is enough of a skeleton. But that's not the plan and I don't want to step on people's toes. It's a shame people "in the industry" are so skiddish about working together. And crossover-phobic. Anyway, sending this to Ruben so that he can put it up on his blog. If RMB and Mallozzi had worked together, would they have succeeded ?
Alex
Nice one, Alex,
*Crosses fingers and hopes there will a reply/replies*
